Online Project Providing Student Access to Electron Microscope Receives SPORE Award

Journal Science has awarded the Science Prize for Online Resources in Education (SPORE) award to an online project that enables students across the country to gain access to a very powerful electron microscope.
科学杂志将在教育方面的在线资源科学奖(SPORE),授予一个能够让遍布全国的学生获得使用一个非常强大的电子显微镜机会的在线工程。

Science magazine initiated the SPORE award to give recognition to the best online science materials in the field of science education. Every month, Science publishes the winning project as an article in its proceedings. One such article called Bugscope was published on 29 July, 2011.
       科学杂志开始SPORE(萌芽)奖,面向在科学教育领域公认的最好的在线科学技术材料。每个月,《科学》在其论文集中发表获奖项目文章。一篇名为<细菌世界>的这样的文章在2011年7月29日发表。
Thakkar, a doctoral graduate in Instructional Design and Technology at Ohio State University, in collaboration with Clint Potter, a scientist, is working on Bugscope, which has been approved for application in classrooms right from KG to high school as well as in colleges. The goal of this new project is to make both students and teachers to behave as scientific investigators according to Thakkar. This provides the schools and colleges access to scientists, including entomologists or microscopists, to address the students queries in the respective labs during live sessions using electron microscopy. The most fascinating feature of this electron microscope is that it magnifies the features of tiny bug creatures in such a way that is overwhelming to most of the kids.

Thakkar,毕业于俄亥俄州立大学教学设计和技术博士研究生,会同克林特·波特,一个在细菌世界工作的科学家,经申请批准从KG到高中和大学的教室。据Thakkar介绍,这个新项目的目标是使学生和教师都可以像科学研究人员一样behave。这给高中或者大学提供了通向科学家的入口。包括昆虫学家或显微镜工作者、处理学生在远程实时连接期间,使用电子显微镜和有关实验室的问题。电子显微镜最迷人的特点是它将微小的昆虫生物的特点放的很大,这对于青少年具有强大吸引力。

The objective of the course is to offer a strategy of active learning and practical scientific investigation, rather than dumping students with theories and facts. Korb and Thakkar aim to change the pattern of education by helping students to interpret gathered scientific evidence and make them participate in science events. This is regarded as a method to enable proper understanding of science and to promote future science educators and scientists. Until now, over 580 classrooms from 415 schools have been using Bugscope. Teachers and students have achieved over 120,000 bugs’ images.
       课程的目标是实现主动学习和实践科学探索的战略,而不是用理论和交流灌输给学生。 Korb and Thakkar 致力于通过帮助学生解释和收集科学证据和使他们参与到科学项目中,从而改变教育模式。这被认为是一种对科学恰当的理解和提升未来的科学教育和科学家的方法。到现在为止,从415个学校,超过580个教室已经使用了细菌世界。老师和学生已经获得超过12万张细菌的图像。
